We don’t want any emergencies but it’s best to be prepared.

BUSHFIRES

Bushfires occur occasionally during the summer months. Here’s what to do:

  • Stay up to date by checking the latest bushfire warnings and updates at fire.tas.gov.au. The site also informs of Fire Danger Ratings and Total Fire Bans. A Total Fire Ban means no campfires and some BBQs are not allowed.
  • Listen to local ABC 936 AM radio for warnings and advice.
  • Monitor the weather at bom.gov.au.
  • Bushfires can start and change direction quickly. Don’t wait for a knock on the door – leave the area as quickly as you can.
  • If it’s too late to leave, take shelter at a Nearby Safer Place.

WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY

Stay informed by visiting the TasAlert website, Tasmania’s official emergency information source. It will provide clear and regular emergency updates. You’ll find details of any emergency event, road closures and evacuation centres. Remember, you may lose phone and internet connectivity if the power is out. If so, tune into ABC 936 AM.

If you have a personal emergency that is life threatening or time critical, call triple zero (000).
