Grass Point is an easy 4km well-graded walk along the foreshore to Penguin Island, starting at Pennicott's restaurant at the end of Adventure Bay Rd. It is also the start and end of the Fluted Cape walk.
The Grade 2 walk to Grass Point is 1.5 hours return and is suitable for most ages. The track has a hardened or compacted surface that may have a gentle hill section or sections and occasional steps. There are occasional boulder-strewn sections before you reach some remains of the bay whaling days.
Suitable for family groups and less experienced walkers, the walk begins in beautiful Adventure Bay. Start by walking along the short beach next to the car park, before turning left onto the well-formed track.
Follow the track, which remains fairly flat, along the coastline. There is open grassland on either side, and when you reach Grass Point there are visible remains of structures associated with the old whaling industry. A little further on is a gulch between Grass Point and Penguin Island.
During whale migration season you might be lucky to spot a humpback or southern right whale along this section of the coast.
Return to Adventure Bay by the same track. Please follow the circuit in an in an anticlockwise direction.
Park entry fees apply.
